Rajarshi (Raj) Bhattacharya is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based at St. Mary's Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital in London, UK. He is the Head of Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and North West London Major Trauma Centre based at St. Mary's Hospital. He acts as a Clinical Advisor to the Parliament and Health Ombudsman and holds several other key posts. Raj Bhattacharya started off his initial medical career in Lanarkshire, Scotland following which he moved to the North-East of England to complete his Basic Surgical Training. Here he completed a Masters degree in Evidence Based Orthopaedic Studies and underwent higher surgical training as a Specialist Registrar (Calman Training Scheme) in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the Northern Deanery, based at Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Subsequently, he trained as a specialist knee surgeon and undertook two prestigious Knee Fellowships, first at the Edinburgh Knee Unit and then at the Southampton Knee Unit. He also trained as a Trauma Specialist with a Fellowship at the world renowned Edinburgh Trauma Unit and was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London in 2010. He was conferred Fellowship of the Austrian, Swiss and German Orthopaedic Associations in 2012.

Raj Bhattacharya consults on a wide range of emergency and elective orthopaedic conditions. His areas of expertise include all acute orthopaedic injuries and complex trauma, as well as all aspects of knee surgery including partial and total knee joint replacements, minimally invasive surgery and soft tissue and ligament reconstructions of the knee. He also has active research interests in these areas and has published in several peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at various National and International forums. He has been involved in orthopaedic teaching and training initially at Newcastle University and subsequently at University of Edinburgh and currently continues to do so at the Imperial College Medical School and North West London Orthopaedic Training Program. He regularly lectures as faculty at specialist orthopaedic courses around the world.
